The horror had halted to an end...Finally. Unconscious bouts of relief made him more thankful to God. But life is always so situational. Soon peace was synonymous with monotony. Routine was synonymous with suffocation.

He traveled the world after that-- kept drifting from time to time, from place to place. Life was meaningful yet anchorless. The anchor was left behind, frozen in the ice of time. Only the thought of spring haunted, when the ice would melt. He was more at ease with the winter inside him.

Moment # 30

All relatives and close friends had gathered at home to celebrate the newlywed daughter-in-law’s first day in the kitchen. “I’ll hand over the keys today! Enough of responsibilities!” Sushma thought. Half of the cooking was done. Sushma let her cook a dish of her choice. “Mutton rezala. I’m not sure…” The bahu announced nervously. Sushma hugged her with warmth. “I understand.” At lunch, mutton rezala was a hit. Other preparations went unnoticed. The home was warm and welcoming the new member. One heart was turning cold. Sushma found her fist gripping the keys tighter. History was repeating itself.

“Papa, give him five years. You’ll see.” She had the confidence that love demanded. They struggled together to live up to that unfailing trust. She won the challenge. After five years, he was a young achiever…proud and self-assured. Love appeared redundant after that. He was confident enough to walk alone.

Moment # 28

Waves were touching the toes, heading back to meet others in the horizon. The wind and the sand, idle moments, the taste of salted peanuts, and him. They remained same after all these years. Counting the waves unconsciously, his mind trailed back to the time when his footprints on the sand were not lonely. “Rotten peanuts!” He spewed it out-- gargled immediately. He needed to get rid of the aftertaste.

Moment # 27

Everything appeared inappropriate, exasperating, or menacing; “That fu**ing door bell!! My brain will burst in my skull!” “Godforsaken idiots did not deliver the newspaper yet! When am I supposed to go through it?” “Why can’t they have minimum common sense to put that at the other side of the road? Idiots!” Dissatisfaction tethered him, in and out, around. Until one day, he happened to befriend his imperfections, which were in him, in his life. The knot was released. Everything he saw was pleasant thereafter.
